uhn.. good question. i mix alot of colouring methods.
if i can recall, i think i did a water colour base on the one with the beast and a sorta shadow base with coloured pencils on the faun and(you can se it in the red pencil stokes) and added letraset markers on top of that, and after that i went over it again with colouring pencils (not the aquarell kind)
the saturation was turned up abit in photoshop after scanning.
